5 Simple Ways To Reset Your Self Care Mindset

In today's fast-paced world of constant bombardment, finding moments of peace and giving our minds a well-deserved break is difficult but essential for maintaining balance and overall wellbeing.

While relaxation means different things to different people, engaging in activities which ease the mind can bring a sense of calm, clarity and rejuvenation.

Here, we reveal five simple activities to clear the mental chatter and provide you with respite to help soothe and restore your busy mind.

1. Mindful Meditation

Meditation is a powerful practice that allows you to cultivate mindfulness and connect with the present moment.

Find a quiet space, sit comfortably, and focus your attention on your breath or a specific object.

Allow your thoughts to come and go without judgment, gently bringing your awareness back to the present whenever your mind starts to wander.  Regular meditation practice can help reduce stress, enhance mental clarity, and promote overall well-being.  Try it for yourself either first thing in the morning when you rise or just before you go to bed for 5-10 minutes in the evening.

2. Nature Immersion

Immersing yourself in nature at least 2 or 3 times per week is one of the best ways to help your mind reset and recharge.

Nature is a powerful restorative tool that allows you to absorb sights, sounds and scents that wash over you which can be very calming and healing.

Take a leisurely walk in a nearby park or forest, sit by a serene lake, walk on the beach, or find a peaceful spot in your garden.

As you connect with the beauty of natural around you, you'll observe the intricate details and experience an immersion that promotes relaxation, reduces anxiety, and rejuvenates your mind in a very effective and powerful way.

3. Engage In Creative Expression

Engaging in creative activities that allow you to express yourself more fully, supports both mental and emotional expansion and healing.

Whether it be playing a musical instrument, writing, painting, drawing or dancing, activities that get your creative juices flowing help to shift your focus away from everyday concerns and into a state of flow.

From this place you feel a sense of joy, liberation, freedom and purpose which is very releasing for the mind and soul.  Consider setting aside at least 1-2 hours per week to practice an activity that appeals to you creatively.

Even if you have done anything creative for a while, take the time to reflect on activities you have done in the past that lit you up, and do your best to revisit and reignite those as often as you can.

4. Guided Visualisation

Guided visualisation is a technique that involves using your imagination to create a mental picture of a peace and harmony all around you.

The reality is that life can be stressful and overwhelming, so taking time out to reset and redirect your mind towards effective visualisation for things you desire in your life can be a very powerful restorative tool.

Close your eyes, take deep breaths, and visualise yourself in a serene location, such as a beach, forest, or mountainside with everything you need and desire around you.

Picture the sights, sounds and sensations of this peaceful place and allow your mind to immerse in the calming imagery.  Guided visualisation can promote relaxation, reduce stress, and even help you to begin to manifest some of the goals and dreams you have for your life so that you can have more clarity and move towards those.

5. Restorative Yoga

Yoga is an ancient practice that is very effective for unwinding the mind because it combines movement with meditation.

Any kind of yoga is a wonderful activity to embrace regularly, however restorative yoga is an extra gentle form of yoga which involves holding poses supported by props such as bolsters, blankets and blocks, allowing your body to fully relax.

As you settle into each posture, focus on your breath and let go of tension and mental chatter.  Restorative yoga promotes deep relaxation, improves sleep quality, and restores balance to both mind and body.

The goods news also is, if you don't want to join a yoga studio or have access to one near you, you can easily download a guided yoga App such as Pocket Yoga or Daily Yoga and follow along at home for 5-10 minutes per day or whenever you feel the calling.
