5 Natural Healing Tools for the Skin

Posted on October 08, 2015 by Don Tolman | 0 comments

When it comes to skincare products, it can be very difficult to know what is dangerous and what isn’t

It is SO sad that many people think they are doing the right thing by nourishing their skin with store bought products, only to be slowly poisoning themselves from the outside in.

I know this can sound a little dramatic, but this is the truth.

Think of it like this, when people give up smoking sometimes they use nicotine patches (on a side note, if you can help it, PLEASE don’t do this).

The skin absorbs the nicotine through the patches and you don’t get a craving.

But notice the fact that all you have to do is it put this patch on your skin and the chemicals will directly penetrate your veins.

When you think of it like that it’s pretty scary.

How many times have you put something on your skin (moisturiser, make up, self tan and more) and it has been directly absorbed into your blood stream? Yikes.

In a perfect world, personal care items would only contain non-toxic, pure plant and herbal extracts without anything artificial.

Until such a time, I want to be here to help make your journey a little easier by showing you how to recognise the safe products and avoid the toxic ones.

What you should look out for:

  1. Phthalates: Sometimes shown on a label as; i-n-butyl phthalate (DBP), di(2-ehtylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP).

Commonly found in: Scented body products, perfume and air freshener.

This chemical tampers with your body’s natural ability to control its natural balance of female and male sex hormones.

  1. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate Sometimes shown on label as SLS, SLES

Commonly found in:  Shampoo, Moisturiser and Cosmetics.

This has many health implications and may be responsible for a variety of health problems from PMS and Menopausal symptoms to dropping male fertility and increasing female cancers such as breast cancer, where oestrogen levels are known to be involved.

Sodium lauryl sulfate is often is commonly contaminated with dioxane, a known carcinogen.

  1. Cocoamide (DEA), Diethanolamine (TEA), Triethanolamine, (MEA)

Commonly found in:  Shampoo, Moisturizer and Cosmetics.

These chemicals can react with other ingredients in the cosmetic formula to form an extremely potent carcinogen called nitrosodiethanolamine (NDEA). NDEA is readily absorbed through the skin and has been linked with stomach, esophagus, liver and bladder cancers.

  1. Propylene Glycol, Propylene Oxide, Polyethylene Glycol (PGE’s)

Commonly found in; Paint, Cleansers, Moisturizers and Baby Wipes.

According to a study by Karlstad University, the concentrations of PGEs, propylene glycol and glycol ethers in indoor air, particularly bedroom air, has been linked to increased risk of developing numerous respiratory and immune disorders in children, including asthma, hay fever, eczema, and allergies, with increased risk ranging from 50% to 180%.

5 natural healing tools for the skin:

  1. Salt (unrefined)
  2. Essential Oils
  3. Citrus
  4. Coconut Oil
  5. Shea Butter

Some of my favourite products to use on the skin

I make sure that anything that lands on my website is completely safe and beneficial to use on the skin. Some of the products I use daily include:

I use this scrub daily to help remove old, dry skin in order to let my pores work their magic and release any unwanted toxins.

I use Devine Body Butter to help nourish the skin and make this Cowboy feel super smooth!

Deodorant is one of those things that I get so riled up about, when it is store-bought it is often laden with chemicals that are absorbed into your blood stream and actually stop the pores from releasing toxicity which can then build up in the body.

Anyway folks, I hope next time you are in the store you will check out some of the labels of skin care products and if you see something you don’t recognise, please PUT IT BACK!
