Tulsi | ECO Tea
Tulsi is a central component of the Ayurvedic medicinal system, revered for its soothing, adaptogenic qualities. Since ancient times, the people of the Indian subcontinent have held this plant to be sacred.
Tulsi (pronounced tool-see) is a member of the mint family (Occimum sanctum) native to southern Asia. Tulsi is also known as holy basil, but don’t confuse it with the basil used in Italian and Thai cuisine. In traditional Indian homes, it is customary to grow a pot of tulsi on the religious altar. Tulsi is believed to be the living embodiment of the benevolent goddess Tulasi.
Tulsi is naturally caffeine-free!
When brewed as directed, this tea provides an ORAC value of 2550 µmolTE/240ml, which is slightly stronger than a typical cup of green tea brewed with a tea bag.
- Increases endurance
- Reduces the negative effects of stress
Many of the aromatic and healing compounds in tulsi require a long, hot steep in order to be released. We recommend pouring boiling water over tulsi and letting it steep up to ten minutes to extract the full flavor and benefits. We enjoy a squeeze of orange in our tulsi, or try adding some fresh diced ginger to the bottom of your mug. Tulsi goes great with a bit of honey, and it is also delicious with a splash of cream or coconut milk.
